Privacy & Data Security for All 6 YouTube Tools

Zero Data Collection — All Processing in Your Browser, We Never See Your Data

Key Takeaways

  • Zero Data Collection — All 6 Tools
  • Online Tools (Transcript, Thumbnail, Comments, Analytics)
  • Free API Tier Data Usage
  • Protect Your API Key

1Our Privacy-First Architecture

Zero Data Collection — All 6 Tools

NoteLM collects absolutely zero personal data across all 6 tools. We don't track videos you watch, transcripts you generate, thumbnails you download, comments you extract, or channels you analyze. No analytics, no telemetry, no usage tracking.

No User Accounts Required

You never need to create an account or sign in. No email collection, no passwords, no personal information. Just visit the tool page or install the extension and use immediately. We have no user database.

Open Source & Transparent

All NoteLM tools are open source on GitHub. You can inspect the code yourself. We believe transparency is the foundation of trust. No hidden trackers, no secret data collection.

2Data Flow by Tool Type

Online Tools (Transcript, Thumbnail, Comments, Analytics)

These tools make requests directly from your browser to YouTube's public APIs. Data flows: Your Browser → YouTube → Your Browser. NoteLM servers are not involved. We never see what videos you access.

Chrome Extensions (Summarizer, Subtitle Downloader)

Extensions process everything locally. For the summarizer: Your Browser → YouTube (transcript) → Google Gemini API → Your Browser. Your API key goes directly to Google, never through us. Subtitle Downloader doesn't use any external APIs beyond YouTube.

API Key Storage

Your Gemini API key is stored in Chrome's local storage on your device only. It never leaves your browser, is never transmitted to NoteLM servers, and we have no way to access it.

3Google Gemini API Privacy

Free API Tier Data Usage

On Google's free tier, your data may be used to improve Gemini models (standard for free AI services). Data is anonymized and aggregated — not personally identifiable. See ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms for details.

Paid API Tier (Optional)

Google's paid tiers offer stronger privacy: your data is NOT used for model training. Enterprise options provide data residency controls. Consider paid tier for sensitive business content.

What Data Google Sees

When you summarize a video, Google sees only the transcript text (not video content, not your viewing history, not your identity). The API key identifies your Google account for billing/limits only.

4Your Security Responsibilities

Protect Your API Key

Your Gemini API key is tied to your Google account. Security tips: (1) Never share publicly, (2) Don't paste in forums/chat, (3) Don't commit to code repos, (4) If compromised, delete at aistudio.google.com and create new key.

Browser Security

Keep browser updated for security patches. Use strong Google account password. Enable 2-factor authentication. Be cautious of browser extensions from unknown sources.

Public vs Private Videos

Our tools only access publicly available YouTube data. Private videos and restricted content cannot be accessed. We cannot bypass YouTube's access controls.

5Legal & Compliance

GDPR Compliance

Since we collect zero personal data, GDPR compliance is straightforward. No data to delete, no data to export, no data to protect. Your privacy is protected by design.

Terms of Service

Using NoteLM means you agree to use it for lawful purposes only. Respect YouTube's Terms of Service. Don't use extracted content in ways that violate copyright.
